R.I.P. ANGUS SCRIMM

The problem with loving older horror films is that we are faced with the inevitability of the passing of some of the most iconic actors in the genre. As we get older, so to do they. And Death waits for no one, even those who portrayed the very essence of that malevolent force.

Angus Scrimm, best known for his portrayal as the “Tall Man” in Phantasm, has died at age 89. Scrimm’s towering height and gaunt figure helped him create a terrifying villain, one that would become one of horror’s most recognizable figures. You’ll be missed, big dude.

Phantasm director Don Coscarelli beautifully wrote, “Angus Scrimm passed away peacefully tonight surrounded by his friends and loved ones. He was 89 years old. His performance as the Tall Man is a towering achievement in horror film history. He was the last in a long line of classic horror movie stars. Angus was a terrific actor and an even better friend. He will be missed.”
